MA in Linguistics
The Department of Linguistics does not offer a stand-alone masters degree, but undergraduates accepted to the BA/MA program (applications may be requested from the Dean of Students office) and students in the PhD program (who must explicitly request this) will be awarded the MA in Linguistics upon satisfaction of the following requirements:
- Successful completion of nine graduate courses, including the six foundational courses taken in the first year of the PhD program
- Satisfaction of one scholarly language requirement
- Satisfaction of the non-Indo European requirement
- Successful completion of a MA paper
Students in the PhD program who wish to obtain a non-terminal MA may request that a successfully defended qualifying paper be accepted as the MA paper.
