How (not) to learn a language
This course focuses on characterizing what (if any) innate preferences humans bring to the task of language acquisition by comparing evidence from statistical learning, case studies of rapid language emergence and change, and linguistic typology, using Bayesian modeling techniques from cognitive science. The course is aimed at advanced undergraduate or graduate students with background and/or interests in linguistics, cognitive science, and machine learning/AI.
