Bayesian Modelling in Language and Cognition
Bayesian cognitive models are a class of models with the goal of simulating human cognition as a probabilistic process, integrating input with prior knowledge. In this class, we will study the use of Bayesian cognitive modelling in language and cognition, including topics in action, perception, decision making, speech, and language. We will model human cognition as a Bayesian decision process, treating one's understanding of the world as probabilistic inference. This class will cover background on basic probability theory, Bayesian logic and approaches, and provide hands on experience with these models with a strong focus on primary literature.
