Ling 27300/37300. Discourse Analysis. This course surveys a number of approaches to investigating language in context beyond the level of the sentence, with special emphasis on naturally occurring language, including speech act theory, ethnography of communication, footing, politeness theory, social indexicality, information structure, and narrative structure.
