Xiaobei Chen is a first-year PhD student in linguistics with a focus on phonetics and phonology. Her research interests involve how perceptual cues actuate and influence the dynamic process of sound change, and how individual variations propagate and coordinate throughout a speech community. She has worked on several ethnic minority languages in China, such as Dai (Kam-Tai) and Hani (Tibeto-Burman), as well as their contact with southwestern Chinese dialect and Mandarin. Xiaobei received her B.A. and M.A. in linguistics from Peking University.
